Sunday 18 October
Sunday is all about sharing: Please keep going out birding and sharing your lists on eBird.
Sunday is also the day for you to go out and take your camera, sketch pad and audio equipment and spend the time enjoying the birds with your friends and family.
It is an ideal opportunity to introduce newcomers to birdwatching.
We have an amazing selection of live Bird Watching events taking place on Facebook so watch our social media pages for updates!
Submit your photographs and audio recordings to eBird (you can take pictures on Saturday 17 too of course!). If you are unsure about how to do this, please check this link https://ebird.org/news/a-new-way-to-upload-and-tag-photos-and-sounds
Sharing some of your images and videos to eBird as well as social media will create an incredible record of the event for everyone to enjoy.
A Few Reminders for Everyone
Here are a few reminders for everyone, whether you have registered as an Individual or a Team. Please take a few minutes to do your own checklist so you are ready for Global Bird Weekend!
Safety
This is our number one priority. We want everyone to enjoy Global Bird Weekend while remaining safe at all times. Please ensure when taking part you comply with any local rules regarding access to locations and any Covid-19 restrictions.
Please respect your fellow citizens and the environment.
Fund Raising
Please try to help us with some fundraising if you can. However much you can afford or raise, all funds count and we are incredibly grateful to those of you who have already donated. We understand that times are particularly difficult at the moment.
Please remember that this year our conservation project is supporting BirdLife International’s Campaign to STOP ILLEGAL BIRD TRADE. The trade in wildlife has a probable link to the current pandemic crisis which we all would like to see ended.
If you are able to donate please visit our dedicated BirdLife International donorbox page at https://donorbox.org/global-bird-weekend
Alternatively you can set up your own JustGiving page following the instructions on our website https://globalbirding.org/our-conservation-project “How to Help”
Social Media
Please:
Follow us on social media and keep up to date with what’s happening!
Share and retweet our posts to reach a bigger global audience.

eBird for Individuals
Please make sure you have your eBird account ready for the Big Day!
If you need to open an eBird Account, please go to https://ebird.org/home to sign up and make sure you are familiar with how to use eBird before Global Bird Weekend!
Question: Is there a time limit on submitting lists to eBird so they count towards Global Bird Weekend?
Answer: Ideally, submit your list on Saturday 17 October - Big Day! - eBird can then produce a real time daily total and give information about how many people are out listing for Global Bird Weekend as it happens! You can watch the lists roll in on eBird’s October Big Day page. The number of species submitted will be updated every few minutes throughout the day.
If you struggle to get your list submitted on 17 October then as long as the list reaches eBird before Tuesday 20 October, they can add your lists to the Global Bird Weekend count.
Please contact us on info@globalbirding.org if you have any questions.
TEAM REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Please encourage all your team members to register as individuals on our website https://globalbirding.org/individual-registration so that they can all be eligible for one of our great prizes https://globalbirding.org/prize-draw
TEAM FUNDRAISING
There are 2 options - as a team you can set up a JustGiving fundraising page via our website https://globalbirding.org/our-conservation-project “How to Help” for instructions. Otherwise you can donate via our dedicated donorbox page https://donorbox.org/global-bird-weekend
EBIRD TEAM ACCOUNT
Have you managed to set up your eBird Team account? There are instructions for this on our website https://globalbirding.org/ebird-team-information
Hopefully we can answer a couple of questions about this here:
Question: Does EVERYONE on the team have to submit their own individual list to eBird as well as the complete group or team list?
Answer: Ideally, YES! Once everyone has got their own lists, then each team member submits their lists individually AND then shares their lists to their Team Leader who submits the complete Team List to eBird.
If someone on your team doesn’t have eBird or the suitable equipment to upload their lists, then they can communicate what they have seen to their Team Leader who can add their sightings manually on the Team Leader eBird account.
Question: Is there a time limit on submitting lists to eBird so they count towards Global Bird Weekend?
Answer: Ideally, submit your lists on Saturday 17 October - October Big Day! - eBird can then produce a real time daily rolling total of species recorded and show how many people are out listing for Global Bird Weekend as it happens! You can watch the lists roll in on eBird’s October Big Day page. The number of species submitted will be updated every few minutes throughout the day.
If you struggle to get your list submitted on 17 October then as long as the list reaches eBird before Tuesday 20 October, they can add your lists to the overall Global Bird Weekend count.
ABOVE ALL HAVE A GREAT FUN GLOBAL BIRD WEEKEND!!!
